You see it on the news all the time when a giant snake is found where it's not supposed to be, or someone's giant tortoise goes on a walk without permission. This often leads to trouble for the owners and trouble for the local reptile community. Reptiles and amphibians are escape artists and anyone that has kept them for very long will likely suffer from more than one escape. Whether it's a 6 inch lizard, 8 foot snake, or 200 lb tortoise, it's amazing how difficult it is to locate a herp once it is out. But it's also surprising how easy it is to locate them sometimes as well, if you know where to look or what to look for. Hopefully you can learn from some of the experiences and tips of other herpers who have lost and sometimes recovered their escaped pets.
