The Ball Python Python regius is the smallest of the African pythons and is a popular pet available in many color mutations. Adults generally do not grow to more than 3.0-4.0 ft in length, although some specimens have reached 5-6 feet, but this is very rare. Found in Africa from Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Niger and Nigeria through Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic to Sudan and Uganda, in the wild they prefer grasslands, savannahs and sparsely wooded areas. The name ball python refers to the animal's tendency to curl into a ball when stressed or frightened. Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to all aspects and issues regarding the keeping, breeding, health, and conservation of ball pythons.
