I am assuming these are babies? I have a one year old southern
painted and have never had any problems with him eating or
basking. In fact, he is just like my eastern painteds which
I have had for 9 years.

I would look at water temps first. If they are in an enclosure
that is glass, cover 3 sides of it for privacy.
