Well in a small tank it would definetly be bad they would pick at each other, I have gotten away with it in a 40g palludarium well planted and lots of wood and ledges 2 dwarf honey guramies (M,F)pluss a large school of long fined white clouds. But I wouldnt suggest it to a novice in a small tank.
