Will sliders hibernate without any kind of debris to burrow in if you're in a country that doesn't get below freezing? I've heard they "umbrate" at the bottom or something like that. But is this okay?

What's more, I'm making an outdoor pond for them to do so and wonder: is it okay to use a regular tarp as some kind of lining for a pond or is there danger of any toxins tainting the water?
