Yes, the golden will regrow its tail. My friend had the same thing happen to his. Upon recapturing the escapee, it did the "shimmy" and dropped the tail at the base. The regenerated tail has fully grown back in 9 months and looks plumper but a bit shorter...hardly noticeable.

Just an FYI…he did administer Neosporin on the stump the first week after it dropped. He stopped administering after it dried up.
