There's an old saying....when in doubt,leave it out.I don't know about those particular ones but until you find out it's safest to exclude them. If you are getting sticks from outside and they are small enough,put them in the[preheated] oven at about 225 degrees for about 15-20 minutes to kill any bugs or fungus.
