Argentine b&w tegus and red tegus have almost identical behavior. they can be some of the tamest reptiles when you handle them regularly. as far as children go, i would acclimate the tegu to the noise and actions of children. and agreeing with the others i dont recommend the rubberband thing. it wont work, and it will anger the animal, and its just not necessary.
