Hi, I keep both a Hermanns and some Redfoots in Connecticut which is similar to Ohio in climate I believe. A Hermanns would be far easier to care for in Ohio as they can take cooler temps, a night time drop in temps and dont require loads of humidity. Redfoots CAN be kept in the northern climates but are far more difficult to keep PROPERLY. They require heat all the time and high humidity which is very hard to do. I have a misting system and spend the winter thinking up new ways to keep the humidity up higher without rotting and molding. Not an easy task.
Soooo, the Hermanns or some other Mediterranean tortoise of the Genus Testudo would be a good choice as would a Russian (Horsfields).
Good luck,
Carole
