The problem with trying to get answers to this question (and it is a popular question on here!) is that almost every person who answers you will only have experience with 1 or 2 cameras so they won't be able to tell you anything useful other than "I have a Canon/Nikon/Pentax/Sony model XXXXX and it is awesome" or "I used to have a model XXXX and it sucked". There might be ten other cameras which would suit you better!

You should really do a little more research into what features you want/need in a camera, then go to a camera comparison site like Dpreview dot com and look at their reviews and Buyer's Guides/comparison charts (which include prices).
