Nawalparasi: In a freak mishap a member of the Armed Police Force of armed base camp, Guthiparsauni was killed while transporting a crocodile to be released into the wild on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred when the victim panicked at the crocodile's attempts to struggle free and jumped off the vehicle. Another armed police personnel was severely injured in the accident.
Harka Bahadur Mahara a local resident of Baitadi district breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital said Krishna Thapa Inspector of Armed Police at Armed Police Border Security Office, Belaspur.
Mahara jumped from the vehicle in panic when the crocodile tried to attack him. He was en route to Narayani River to release the crocodile which was found near Gandak drainage in Guthiparsauni.
The crocodile measuring five feet in length and weighing 60 kgs was tied with a rope. However the crocodile was not sedated as per the norm when transporting large wild animals.
