Does anyone add extra calcium in a shallow dish?

If so do you use ground up cuttlebone or gecko calcium (what type)?

I use crickets dusted with calcium but much of it comes off and gets on the hide areas,etc and prefer to simply give my geckos calcium in a bowl but not familiar with brands or if this is as good as dusted crickets.
