I always see those "white blobs" accompanying pickerel frog eggs and other species in abundance, seemingly laid on the same night. I thought they were excess mucuous left by unfertilized frogs or egg masses in a very early stage of development. Hard to believe spotted salamanders are common enough around here to leave thousands of them.
