I went camping in Ochlockonee State Forest in the first week of August and found ribbon snakes that appeared to be eastern ribbon snakes but as the stripes went down the tales they faded out. I asked an educator at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge about it and he called it a Big Bend Ribbon Snake. I thought it could be a blue-stripe with all of the blue faded out, but as I found more I realized that none of them had any blue and that the stripe down the middle of the back disappeared about halfway down the body.
Eastern Ribbon Snakes live in this area but I didn't see a single one where in most other areas I see hundreds. Could it be a subspecies of an Eastern Ribbon or the local population is mostly Aberrant Eastern Ribbon Snake? Could it also be a sub-species or faded variation of the Blue-Stripe Ribbon Snake? I have never heard of Big Bend Ribbon Snakes before nor have I seen them in any field guide or through search engines.
I can't find a picture at the moment but I know I took a few so I will try to get one on here as soon as I can.
Thanks.
