IMO, yes, pits do better at slightly cooler temps. If you are using a hot side, like you mentioned, at that temp, but the snake also has a cooler side to choose, I think that should be fine. I use ambient temps, but your temps sound fine, and I hope others can chime in on their experiences as well.
