Cal kings are usually not defensive as long as they have become accustomed to handling. They are definitely one of the best beginner snakes due to their hardiness and ease of care. As far as their availability, I'm sure many are listed in the classifieds on this and other sites, as well as being available at every reptile show and many pet stores. Many of the larger breeders such as BHB and Reptiles by Mack make them available on their websites as well.
