First verify the species ID. My guess would be Tracheloptychus petersi (pic..from www)...but also other species may be traded unter the name you mentioned.
Malagasy plated lizard species inhabitat quite diverse habitats . There are desert dwellers as well as semiaquatic species.
So its important to exactly know, what you have, before following any advices.
