We have a sulcata in the yard which means our lawn is never treated with chemicals so I always know the wild bugs I find out there are safe for turtle food.
The "June Bugs" are starting to come out already so when I found three the other night I put them in a jar so the two aquatic turtles could have them for breakfast. I was going to let the yellow mud have two bugs & the western painted have one but when I dropped two in the mud tank I had to take one out before it drowned because the painted ate his first one right away & was ready for more while the mud grabbed his bug, carried it around like the dog carries his rubber ball around. He wouldn't eat it or let go for a long time. Just walked around on the bottom with a big bug in his mouth.
Was it a happy turtle who thinks he's got a special prize or something?
LOL
They can be so goofy sometimes, & spoiled rotten too. My mud is nine years old, he really is spoiled.
