I got to handle my first Ringed Python today and I'm curious as to why it was given the species boa instead of any number of other possibilities. I heard somewhere that there are a few python species that bear live young but Bothrochilus boa is apparently not one of them. If anyone knows why specifically this species is named in such a way it'd be wonderful if you'd share the information and if anyone knows of any resourses that help one break down scientific names into component parts (such as don, or dontia meaning teeth, ceph refering to the head/brain and so forth) could you please direct me to them?
Cheers
Kimbits
