Old World Rat snakes are medium to large sized constrictors that can be found through a great portion of the northern hemisphere. They feed primarily on rodents and birds in the wild and some species are known to be avid climbers. Most make attractive and docile pets while others can be skittish and sometimes aggressive. Bites are seldom serious and no species of ratsnake is dangerous to humans. Long thought to be completely nonvenomous, recent studies have shown that at least some Old World species possess small amounts of venom, though the amounts are negligible and not enough to be considered dangerous to humans. Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to all aspects and issues regarding the keeping, breeding, health, and conservation of all Old World Rat Snakes.
