How many days does it take to hatch red cheeked mud turtles?

hahaman Feb 11, 2006 10:36 AM

Hi,

My red cheeked mud turtle laid 3 eggs about 2.5 months ago. I incubate them at 27C (80F). Some parts of the eggs turn white, but I never find blood vessels on them. Is this normal? I heard that these eggs need diapause, is that true? And how many days does it take to hatch red cheeked mud turtles?

Thanks.

Incubation can range anywhere from 90 to 150 days or more depending on temps. I incubated mine at around 82 degrees.
All of your eggs appear fertile from that banding.
Other breeders vary the temps between 78 to 84 degrees.

Mark Packer recently wrote an article in REPTILES magazine and his hatched from 90 to 130 days when incubated between 76 and 84 degrees.

I don't know about diapause in an incubator and I have to say that I don't remember if mine ever experienced it.

I'll wait and see.
