What is a fair price for CB Day Geckos

theeaterofshades Feb 11, 2006 02:59 PM

Hello all,

THere is a store here in Appleton, WI selling a Gold Dust for $57.00 on sale (norm 78.00) and a Giant Mad. DG for ~$120.00. Are these fair prices? I guess I'm hesitant to order reptiles via the internet and have them shipped to Wisconsin in the middle of winter thus I have been looking locally. Thanks!

I have purchased a total of 5 adult Wild-caught Phelsuma laticauda (Golddust Day Geckos) from the Reptile Shop here in Denver. I paid between 30 and 40 dollars for each animal. I have also purchased 5 Giant day geckos from 2 different online sources and the local Reptile Shop. They were all adults and 3 of the 5 were captive bred. They ranged from 70 to 100 dollars (plus shipping) for each animal.

From what you are describing I would say you should be able to get a Golddust for about 1/2 of what the store there is asking. If they happen to be captive bred adults in excellent condition, its not too unreasonalble for them to charge $57.

Also, if the Giant Day gecko is a captive bred adult animal in perfect health, 120 dollars isn't too bad. Its high, but only by 10 or 20 bucks.

Thats just my 2 cents - hope it helps.

Joe

PS- Go for captive bred animals from a breeder
