help,golden greek w/ worms

kyle85 Mar 14, 2006 04:40 PM

I have had this golden greek for about 4 years now. When I got him at a show, he was in bad shape; loaded with parasites, runny eyes, diareha, extremely shy. I took him to a vet and she gave me panacure and some eyedrops. He was good as new after the treatments were over. Now four years later he got diareha again and wasn't really acting himself. Nothing had changed to cause this that I could see so I took him to the vet(not the same one). He said he saw pinworm in the stool sample and gave me a bottle and said give 1 mL every 2 weeks for 4 doses. The only thing I can read on the lable is 27.2 mL Fenbendole/mL. Its been a week after the last dose and he still has diareha so i can only assume the worms aren't gone. His eyes might be a little sunken (i might be looking too hard), but he is very active and has a fair appetite. I spot clean every day so he shouldn't be reinfecting himself. I will call the vet tomorow but I can't just go back there because I'm 250 miles away at college, and there isn't even a pet store up here let alone a reptile vet. Has anyone ever used this med before? Did it work? Also, I read about a panacure paste on this forum, has anyone used it with sucess? Thanks for any help, I'll let you know what the vet says.

I FOUND A HERP VET. She tested a stool sample and said there was no sign of worms or eggs so the fembenzol took care of the pinworms, but he still has diareha. The vet up here said not to worry about it. She said if it bothers me I could try some diff foods like strawberries, bananas, or even crickets!!! That didn't give me a whole lot of confidence but at least the worms are gone so I guess I'll experiment with other foods for now -not the ones she said, and if that doesn't clear it up my other vet said maybe an antibiotic will clear it up.

I have always had good luck with fenbenzol with "golden greek". Its normal for them to have some parasites but when they get stressed the parasites can get out of hand. What are you currently feeding? Try adding more weeds rather than supermarket greens. Some grocery stores carry dandelion greens. You can grow nasturtiums which are edible (flowers and leaves).

I'm feeding mostly endive, escarole, turnup greens, snap pea pods, mustard greens, and dandelion greens. I try to switch it up every week and he hasn't had dandelion greens for a while so I'll look for them next time. He used to eat collards but now he won't touch them. I would like to offer more weeds, but there is still about a foot of snow outside. I never thought of growing my own but I will look into it
