hi all,i could'nt pass up a KILLER deal on a baby spotted hatched late last year.right now,"2 bits" is about the size of a quarter(hence the name).the breeder i acquired it from told me that it eats frozen bloodworms.are freeze-dried bloodworms & tubifex worms ok,or should i go get some frozen bloodworms?also, how deep should the water level be?right now,i've got it set up like a baby slider or map,w/ a 3-1 ratio water to land, and it seems fine, swimming, diving, resting on floating plants, etc.oh,it's in a 5 gal tank, until it puts some more size on.does this sound about right?any input woud be much appreciated.thanks!

I keep all my hatchlings in a tub that is three feet long and a foot wide. I place a piece of wood or a book under one end, This will give me a depth of about a half inch at one end and two and a half inches at the other end. I use broken terra cotta pots as hide outs (they like to hide) and rocks and wood as basking sites. I use three or four basking sites in the deep end just for a resting place and keep the hide outs in the shallow end. I feed them only sticks untill they are about six months old then I add rosie reds, and chopped red fruits every now and then. I have 10 month olds that were hatched the day my daughter was born and they are already over two and a half inches raised in this set up. Hope this helps,
Tom

Great to hear Wayne. My camera is broken but when I get a new one I will post pics. I have hatched four spotties so far and I have 3 eggs that should hatch very soon. I also have four more that were just laid this week. Two of my females were just moved to the males enclosure for the first time this week so I hope there are more to come. Two that I hatched last year the same day my Daughter was born have a ton of spots. One has over 140 at 2.5 inches long! They were the biggest babies I have ever hatched. I will try to post pics asap because I dont think everyone will believe me . These are her parents.
