My non existent 40 gallon breeder tank

PHRatz Mar 26, 2006 12:34 PM

We never have gotten to the town that's 110 miles away to get that 40 gallon breeder tank for Scooter the mud turtle.
My mother got sick & was in the hospital, work, and other stuff got in the way. We still plan to get this tank but just haven't yet.

Yesterday we happened to be in the town that's 20 miles from this town although the pet store we stopped in is actually about 40 miles from our house.. but I dropped in to ask them if they can get a 40 gallon breeder tank.
Like everyone else they've never heard of it, couldn't find it in their order books but the woman I spoke to actually offered to go out of her way to find out if she can get one for me.
That's the first time anybody in this area has offered to actually lift a finger to try order in the tank I want. The rest of the stores I've called on have said sorry. That's it, sorry.
What a way to do business huh?

The woman at the store yesterday told me her distributor is the very same one that supplies the store that's 110 miles away so if they can get it hopefully she can too. She said when she calls in her order on Tuesday she'll find out if the distributor can get one to her at the price I want, if they have it she'll go ahead & get it on order for me.

Hey a store owner who actually wants to make this sale. Apparently for this region that's a shocking thing to see LOL!!

I've got my finger crossed, hopefully by next weekend Scooter will be in a new home.

In that case, I hope Allglass isn't the only company that makes them.
I need the 40 breeder size because I have a stand that it will fit on so it needs to be exacly that size.
YIKES!
I'm not supposed to call this woman back until later in the afternoon today to see if she's found anything. I hope she does.

All Glass lists the 40-breeder on this web page.

www.all-glass.com/products/aquariums/standard.shtml

Maybe the web-page is out of date?

This company has something like the 40-breeder - the 40 long

www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=2

I know they sell at herp shows, and I've purchased a few of their terrarium tanks. I don't know if they distribute to pet stores.

I talked to the pet store woman who's trying to order this for me, she said her first distributor had never heard of a tank like this.
She said she was trying another & asked me to call back again.
Thanks for the link to Allglass because that's something I could show to her if she can't find anything. At least I could prove to someone around here that yes this size tank does exist.

I've been communicating with people online for a decade & so many people have these tanks for turtles, I think it's odd that in my region none of the pet stores have ever heard of a 40 gallon breeder.
If we don't have any luck, we'll just have to make that 110 mile trip to get the tank from the store that confirmed they carry them.

Maybe they don't know the product by the term "40 gallon breeder".

Maybe you should just ask if they have a tank that's 36x18x16 (or whatever the dimensions are). Or "do you have a 40 gallon tank that's about 36x18?"

I'm way ahead of you lol. I handed over a piece of paper with the dimensions written on it or I told them the dimensions if I was calling on the phone. Even the store that sells nothing but aquariums & fish couldn't find this size tank.

When I contacted the store 110 miles away by email I said I want a 40 breeder that measures 36x18x anywhere from 13-17 high & they knew exactly what I was talking about. They wrote back & said this is an item that's regular stock for them, they carry it all the time.
If some of the stores here have the same distrubtors, I'm just dumbfounded that they can't figure this out.
It's not like I'm asking for a product to be shipped from Mars. lol

I spoke to the pet store woman this morning while one of distributors was there with her.
He looked through everything & the only thing he could come up with that was close to what I want is a lizard lounge. A glass enclosure that has vents in the sides. sheesh
She said her allglass distributor has dropped allglass so she can't get anything from allglass.
I think we need to get ready for that 110 mile trip. If she can't come up with something in a week or so, we'll have to do that. I'm getting tired of not having a better tank for my little Scooter. He's 10 now, he really needs a larger home than the Rubbermaid he's in now.

I did tell her that I'd take something shorter than 36 inches if she could find something fairly large that's not taller than 17 inches. Any taller & it won't fit on the bottom shelf of my stand.
arrrgghh!
lol

Oh my gosh I almost missed this post. Thank you so much for the info. This way I know I can still get that tank in the other town if I really can't ever find what I want near here.
Thanks again!
