Old Tokay died...please read if you are

JadeFox Mar 28, 2006 08:16 PM

I had her about 8 years, but she gradually was losing her appetite with a complete absence of diarrhea, and was not even discolored. My vet told me she was free of disease, but was experiencing a natural process of aging. She even had an arthritic elbow!

I just wanted to say you are BETTER OFF getting a tokay from a dealer who knows when your tokay was hatched. Wild captured TOKAYS-that are adults--are of unknown age.

When I first got my tokay it was from the wild. I spent a considerable amount of money getting it parasite free. Plus it took about 6 months to tame her!

I felt so bad over her death that I did manage to get a new one--hatched only 2 weeks ago. Easy as pie to tame and she's already only willing to eat when I had feed it. Though this one cannot replace what I lost, I'm getting extremely attached to the baby.

The breeder hatched TOKAY may cost more but considering you know the age of it, and chances are disease free you are actually saving a lot of money. I spent hundreds of dollars getting my wild captured one disease free.

I think the wild captured tokays from the wild should be banned and only sell TOKAYS who were bred.

I'm very sorry you lost you tokay girl. Always sad, and feels bad , but seems as though you cared a great deal, which tells us she was well taken care of.

Happy to hear you have a youngster to carry on and be able to tame as well. I agree as far as captive bred, much tamer and heartier pet.

Best wishes with your new baby!
