Clinging Issues

geckogirl72 Apr 03, 2006 06:40 PM

I recently (on 3/26/06) upgraded one of my young geckos cages to a larger size. I noticed the last couple days that the gecko has been slipping around alot on surfaces such as the glass, my walls, etc.., all areas he usually has no problem clinging to. The one really big change is that I put a piece of bamboo in his new cage. He has never had bamboo before. He has been going inside of it and I'm wondering if the bamboo has some sort of residue inside or on it that is making him slip? I'm really concerned. Also, I read in my book that it could be a deficiency of some sort (calcium or vitamin), but he just encountered this problem so I'm trying to troubleshoot the easy stuff first. Any ideas as to what it could be? This has happened before in my other gecks but only occasionally and it has been temporarily related to being on my skin for too long or something. I placed him on a clean towel with warm water on it to try to clean his feet, but it didn't help.

Also, I should mention he shed prior to placing him in his new cage, I checked his toes and they are old skin free.

Thanks

I'm guessing that there is nothing wrong at all and he'll be back to normal in no time.

Thanks, I am hoping that its nothing. I changed out the bamboo this morning to some other wood I have, he wasn't happy with the change, but I think he'll have an easier time getting around the cage. I checked though, and he still isn't climbing well today.

I was hoping to hear that your gecko with the "clinging issues" was back to normal.

Thanks for asking. I removed the bamboo and it was a bit better. He shed yesterday. When I got home I couldn't find him, then I looked up and he was upside down on the screen!! Guess his problem is fixed! My gut feeling told me it had something to do with the bamboo. He was sleeping inside it and there was a papery inside that was coming up and I think he just got some residue on his toes. Thank goodness it was an easy fix!
