you should probably clean that cage. and look for a good tokay care sheet. it needs humidity and heat among other things

Paradon Apr 11, 2006 11:35 PM

Actually, I think the set-up is fine! I just put that cage up. And what you actually see on the newspapers is the result of water being sprayed on the newspaper every night to try to raise the humidity, and I also sprayed on the side of the tank. Anyway, my room get's heated up warmer than the rest of the house, and as you can see, the Tokay is fine because he is eating and pooping all the time.

what is the average humidity and heat? I dont think there is any problem with the way it looks, but there is obveously poop everywhere. the reason some people use news paper is so you can change it every day, not let it get completly fouled. I dont think your going to kill the lizard like that but it wont be healthy.

Well, I know what you mean, though. But let's face it...tokay is not the easiest gecko to handle when it's time to clean out the cage! I'm still a little skirmish about that. I'm afraid he might actually bite me and get away; then I'll have one heck of a day trying to catch that thing! [laugh!] But they still are my favorite gecko!

You know it might make it easier to clean if you didn't have the heaviest things you could possibly think of for decoration/hides for your gecko. I'm surprised they haven't cracked through the bottom of the tank!

Now my soap box... if you would have researched and evaluated your abilities before getting this lizard you wouldn't have picked it. It's not for the squeemish or the jumpy. If you own a WC tokay you will get bit. You might have done better to plan ahead of time. If you're going to use newspaper you should have planned to figure out how to change it more frequently AND not get bit. If you're not going to change it enough go with a biologically active type bedding instead, plant your tank, etc. But the poopy paper and the bricks... that's probably some of the worst planning I've ever seen.

Do not make the mistake that pooping = healthy. As a veterinary student I've seen many MANY MANY MANY severely sick animals still pooping. Exotics are even worse as they will pretend to be healthy until they have 3.9 feet in the grave.

Do some research. What did you expect to get as a response with a habitat like that?
