Is this a turtle or tortoise?

TammyIs5150 Apr 21, 2006 01:51 PM

We found this little one in front of our house (we live 10 minutes N of Houston in East Texas). It does not look like the two species of box turtles native to Texas nor do I think it a Texas Tortoise. Any ideas on what this little one is? I think it's a female? Thanks in advance for any help to identify.

Thanks! Would you happen to know what kind of box turtle it is?

It's a three-toed box turtle. Wow, good picture!! Here's one of mine. If you wash the dust off or yours, you'll notice that it should look very similar.

"Margin"

I washed him with a sponge and the shell still looks the same color. Does this mean he is something else?

No, I was just commenting on how mine look much darker than yours. Colors can vary among this species.
