What type of Day Gecko is this?

Geckohappy Apr 22, 2006 10:38 PM

Someone has offered to give me this little day gecko, but I'd like to try to find out what species it is so I can find the right care sheets, and just to satisfy my curiosity.
This is the only photo I have until it's in my hands, I hope it's clear enough to figure out what it is.
Also, I was curous as to what they normally sell for? I have leopard geckos, and those I'm much more familiar with!
Thanks in advance!

Cute little one. Looks like a Phelsuma lineata lineata (lined day gecko) to me, or a subspecies of the lined day gecko.

I'm not sure how much they cost though, I have never seen one for sale in my travels. Judging from its size, I would say maybe $50 to $75. P.m. grandis and P. standingi run in the $90 range and they are much larger.

Thank you so much for the information.

Do you know if they are easy or difficult to care for?
Would you recommend a good online care sheet?
When I first started with leopard geckos I found that many care sheets had misinformation, and I want to try to avoid making mistakes in it's care.

Looks just like the pic on page 47 in the Feb 2006 Repitiles Mag. It is a whole article on identifing and caring for American Geckos (including aliens).

Doesn't look anything like the picture in the Feb Reptiles mag on pg 47! It's definietly not a grandis.

The book I have says basic to moderate skill level. It is a hardy species. Use tropical plants (bromeliads, sanseveria) bamboo, etc for the cage. Basking spot 90 degrees F, 60-75% humidity. (mist a couple times a day)
