Outdoor Day Gecko Enclosures

jwthought Apr 24, 2006 08:37 PM

Has anyone ever tried this? I live in the Florida Keys and Im think of creating some type of large outdoor enclosure (possibly a walk in) for some grandis. Im thinking wooden frame chicken wire and window screening sides. I'm well aware of the male's dislike for each other, so I'd likely try to get females. Does anyone one have any insight or experience trying anything like this? There are escaped day geckos that live here in the Keys that are sighted from time to time, so I'm confident that the enviornmental specs will be adequate. The only thing Im a bit concerned of is humidity drops during the dry season, but I feel I could run a timed misting system several times a day. Anyway, any question/comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have kept grandis outside here in southern california 9 mos. out of the year with no problem. You can probably keep them out year-round. They were kept out day and night, rain or shine, and did great. Just watch out for ants. They love snake plants. There is a good pic of an outdoor cage for phelsuma's in the "general care and maintanance" book by AVS. Josh

What type of enclosure do you keep your geckos in? Do you have any pics? Thanks.
