Musk Turtle Hybrids?

tbrophy71 May 01, 2006 09:52 AM

Greetings!

As I've been gathering information on turtle hybridization, I've run across several references to turtle hybrids in the kingsnake.com archives. Can anyone verify or provide more information on the following musk turtle hybrids? Any information on other turtle hybrids would also be helpful. Thanks!

1) Razor-back musk X Common musk (posted by nine0proof on 12/31/02)

Thanks again!
Tim

Common Musk x Eastern Mud. Note the reduced plastron, but it had 2 hinges on the plastron.

The head looks like a typical old eastern mud turtle but that plastron is strange....normal skin areas for a musk turtle and then the hinges?

I have the same kind of turtle in a forty gallon tank in my house right now i have a male and female that look just like that and they have layed 4 eggs this year but just a couple of days ago i caught a new turtle that seems to be a musk turtle and florida box turle hybrid it can swim fantastic but can close only the front of its shell up like a box turtle and has a different shell pattern than the other turles but it is much larger

I produced a cross between a common musk and a stripeneck musk as I only had the one male common and several female stripenecks. I'll have to take a pic sometime.
