jonnythesaint137 May 03, 2006 09:52 PM

I have had this particular western fence lizard for almost 2 months now. i have a uv light for him a basking light and a heat rock. i had to leave him for a week while i went back east and my friend took care or him for me. he said that he was depressed and diddent want to eat. He usto run around his cage and be realy friendly, now all he does is lay there. he ate some crickets but not like he usto. he has no energy and i fear the worst! Its realy weird cause ive had him a while and he was always so healthy..... any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First off 2 months is not a long time when it comes to a WC lizard. Its posable this lizard just is not taking good to a captive enviroment. Is it posable for you to take a picture of it for us? I know its hard to accept but somtimes its best to release a WC lizard when it dose not fair well in captivity. What are its colors like? Have you noticed it darker than normal latly? In my oppinion there is no reptile that cant go some time with no care such as when you leave town. I am not blaming your friend of any wrong doing but as of late I have read in these forum a lot of help questions from people that left there pet in the care of a friend just to find out somthing is wrong with it now. Your Western Fence Lizard can go a week without food or fresh water when you leave town, Its not recomended but they can go with no water for that long. He may be hungery and thirsty when you get home but no worse for wear. . As I said a picture or maybe a more detailed discription will help us better andswer your question. But all in all in the end it may be better to give it back to the wild

my friend fed him some crickets while i was gone and made sure he had water, he also turned the light on for him during the day so i dont think it was anything on his part. as for color he has gotten darker lately and you cant see his back spots as well. his spine is more pronounced than it usto be and that started a couple days after i got back. i think im going to realease him, id rather he be healthy in the wild then sick with me.....thank you for your insight.
