Note to Squirts Mom

Hi,
Congrats on your new arrival! The last thread was getting really long so I started another. Here's my two cents worth...it takes a turtle awhile to adjust to a new environment especially a turtle that was born in the wild...he's thinking he landed on another planet. The eating thing may take awhile...but it sounds like he is getting adjusted just fine. We've had our "Squirt" over a year now and it took awhile for him to settle in.He's very picky about food as you may have seen some of my posts. Anyway he's part of our family. I never realized how much personality a turle can have and how smart and alert they are. Squirt is tame now, when we first picked him up his legs would go and he'd try to escape, now he just sits back and enjoys the ride. Good luck and keep everyone posted on Squirts progress. This forum is full of wonderful, helpful people.

My son named "Squirt" after the Pokemon character Squirtle and his middle name is "Yertle" after the Dr. Suess turtle, so we have Squirtle Yertle! My nephew just found a painted hatchling and his name is "Speedy" and he is indeed a "Speedy" that can really move!

Thank you for your input and everyone else's. I new posting in this forum would be a good idea because people at pet stores have no idea what they are talking about!!

Yes he adjusted quite well. He definitely is quite "squirrelish" as some other people have said because he was afraid of a worm when I put it in the tank! He's been eating the guppies and he just started eating the turlte pellets. It was very exciting.

He seems to be doing much better now that his environment is warmer. I also noticed he is peeling or shedding. Is that because he is growing and the skin is stretching?

I named him after Squirt in Finding Nemo because I fell in love with those turtles as soon as I saw the movie!!

You are definitely correct, he has a ton of personality! He's very entertaining!

Well my son found another baby turtle so this one is named "Gus"...don't know why or how but his name is "Gus". I used to watch "Leave it to Beaver" and on the show Beaver had an old man friend named "Gus" and he looked like a turtle!
