Cold Water Misting Bad?

jeneef May 27, 2006 02:51 AM

I have always heard that you should never mist your reptiles with cold water due to the chance of bringing on a resporatory infection, that the water should be warm to you if you spray your arm with it.

My husband is telling me that this is false and that he has seen our local reptile seller misting the animals directly with cold water.

I have been searching for info on this all night, is this true or false? Someone throw me a bone....

I know y'all are reading this, can someone please give me some input? I think this is fairly important and wouldn't want my husband to give a respiratory infection to any of our animals by spraying them with cold water.

i have never herd of that but thay do like the warm water better. its like use taking a warm shower as to a cold shower. but the water should not be hot just luck-warm
hope this helps

I have never heard about the temprature change in misting being dramatic enough to cause any harm, unless cold water is sprayed long enough to lower the entire core temprature of the reptile in question. Otherwise it would seem that in the wild reptiles would be getting lung infections left and right every time it rains. My best guess though is just play it safe and warm the water so its more comfortable to the reptile and may provent any stress or illness....
