Hi,
I have a dozen worms. What do you recommend for food. I feed brine shrimp, tubifex worms, blood worms and ground beef heart (sometimes) When people say they feed worms, what do they mean and where does a person purchase.

Thanks!

Hey, (if we talking about aquatic caecilians)
The worms I use for mine are Earthworms (Nightcrawlers), I usually find these in a fish bait store then place them in my worm gutloader and use them as I need them. I believe Ed mentioned that the Red Worms shouldnt be used because they produce something or other that tastes bad and can turn caecilians off worms.

I have fed;
Feeder Guppies (I breed em, and are much leaner then goldfish)
Ghost shrimp (when im feeling evil)
Strips of Beef Heart
Shrimp
But Nightcrawlers are my staple

The problems ive had with bloodworms is if not all of it gets eaten your water quality will suffer. The only time I use bloodworms is when Ive got babies and even then I prefer to use live Cali Blackworms. Hope this helps a bit.

terrestrial or aquatic caecilians?

for the terrestrial i just would put a bunch of euro night crawlers directly into their terrarium.

for the aquatic i used to drop in european night crawlers cut into 4ths (these are the 'panfish bait worms' sold at walmart), problem was that they got too eager to eat them and would over eat then barf them back up a while later and fouling the water. i used to also offer frozen blood worms but they didnt eat them all-so it left a mess in the tank. i now have switched to reptomin floating food sticks. these are made for turtles and newts-so are a good protein balance. they are sold as a dry pellet -which has the added benefit of long shelf life and low cost. since these float the caecilians will root around at the surface of the water to find them all-and they do! not only do they eat them eagerly but they also are able to find them all since they all float. i recommend it.

In addition to what others have stated, I used to offer my very large adults......pre-killed pinkie mice! Earthworms were a staple, along with the occasional frozen fish and cooked shrimp pieces (plain shrimp - buy it raw, freeze, pop it in the microwave with a little water for 30 seconds, break into pieces), and an occasional defrosted pinkie once the T. natans were big enough to handle them.
