How bad are kingsnake escapees?

electricbluescat Jul 31, 2003 01:58 PM

Right now I have a female 03 desert banded cali king. She is a het for albino so she cost a little more. Would a 10 gallon tank with a esu lid with clips be secure enough for her? Right now shes in a reptile plastic cage. I dont want her escaping out cuz I just got her.

The 10 gallon tank and lid you have should be safe for your king. I have a 30 gallon with the same lid and there almost escape proof, mine has'nt escaped yet.As a matter of fact when I first got my (lavender albino banana cali king), I had a home-made lid, in which he found a tiny crack and escaped (for almost 3 weeks), but he finally showed up crawling across the floor. So then I got the same lid in which your talking about, and he hasnt escaped since.Good luck.

If your lid is the type with 2 metal clips that attach to the tank trim, I would buy an extra set of clips and put one at each corner. I have used them before and if you just have one on each side the snake can push the corners up when he is big enough.
