Frilly really hurt....

lazandlouie May 29, 2006 01:28 AM

So Im doing my evening check up on my animals tonight once I got off work and to my very surprise my smaller female (i have a male and female in the same aquarium, the males bigger) has blood on the back of her neck in between her frills. Well I gently get her over my sink and lightly spray off the blood and see that a chunk of her neck right where her spine would be is missing, a big hole on her neck. Well she didnt seem to be to bothered by this when I was spraying it, but I'm freaked out. I have had both of them for over 2 and a half years. I really dont want to lose her and its late and Im wondering what to do. It seems though it could heal, but I dont mind going to a vet, but my real question was...do males bite females in such a way I havent always kept them together and they are just together right now for a little while I know sometimes he intimidates her but I've never seen him try to hurt her. Sorry so long but I know all of you understand, thank you so much!!

I would take her to the vet just to be sure. and make sure it is a girl the easiest way is to look at the front teeth (if she is over 2 years old) if they are big, like fangs its a boy, but if they are small its girl. but this only works in mature frillies
hope this helps

depending on where you live they may have bred. Especially if they have been together for almost 3 years. If you noticce her on the floor a lot and rotating her head in a circular motion then that is exactly what she is doing. The male will grab the back of the females neck to hold her to breed. If there are no other marks on her (legs, tail, face) then this may be a good indication. Spring is here... lizards know it from the change of weather...

Watch her eatin habits, as they may change in a couple months.
