Who would keep frogs?!

Well that question was answered this weekend when I fell in love with a gorgeous Pacman in my local pet store! Beeeaaaautiful! As a total newbie to Amphibians, I would appreciate your help in finding a site that could give me the basics of keeping Frogs, Toads and Treefrogs, incl caresheets, feeding suggestions, housing etc.

Also, I am naturally confused as to what to buy – what species would you highly recommend I try first, and which (if any) should I stay away from?

Any other tips would be very welcome!

Cheers, all!

congrats on getting hooked. for your first species i would get a whites treefrog, pacmans are cute when little, but they tend to loose their color when older and they don't really move. whites treefrogs are nocturnal, but if you turn their lights on at 6 am and off around 6 you can see them move around. they are also very hardy and are the most handleable of pretty much all frogs. for them you will need: 15 gallon tank min. lots of plants (broms, snake plants, and birds nest ferns work well), a large water dish, a light dome thing, a basking bulb, bed-a-beast, driftwood, a hand held mister (get the 6$ ones from home depot that are really big, they are the easiest to use) and a screen or glass top. just make srue temps stay above 70. good luck and conatct me if you have any more questions!

Hey Otis

Good pics of a lovely frog - thanks!

What is a Bed-A-Beast?
Do you use real plants? Sounds like you do...
Any websites you can recommend for beginners?

Thanks Again

bed a beast is an expandable dirt, it is easier cause it is sterile and plants grow very well in it, plus it doesn't mold or get smelly. one brick expands for about 1.5 inches in a 20 gallon tank. I use live plants, i think the frog like them more (though i have never used fake ones, so don't really have anything to compare it to) they are softer than the plastic ones, sometimes they have sharp points. also it keeps humidity up, looks better, and provide more variety.

This all depends on what kind of frog you want! They are very neat, although, not for everyone (if you want to be entertained for hours on end, don't bother!) But pacmans are a good starter and very fascinating! I bet you would fall in love with one of those or any other frog, if you were willing to! If you need any more info on pacman frogs, try the website below! It has tons of information! Goodluck!
