also is there any type of community snake that can live with frogs and lizards???

maybe a gardner?

detrick105 Jun 09, 2006 07:47 PM

Not a very good idea... as they will try to eat each other, frogs/toads will generally try to eat anything that moves, lizards are usually carnivores and as such will try to eat smaller frogs/toads/snakes/lizards the majority of the time... overall in my opinion its not a good idea

so there are no community lizards and frogs at all?

otis07 Jun 09, 2006 07:57 PM

NO! the turtle would most likely eat the frog(s) and try to eat the lizards tail, do some reserch, it's not possible. if yo usay they are togetherin the wild-well, they eat eachother in the wild.

well if you realize what i am doing IS research then you might take a different tone.

did i say that i have frogs turtles and lizards together?

no, i said is it possible.

thanks.

you're right, you are doing reserch, and good job, but i really think housing all three together would be pushing it, maybe lizards and frogs, but not with turtles, good luck.

housing turtles with anything else, besides other turtles is generally a bad idea, though some people get it to work. your best bet for a community tank with frogs and lizards is to use green and brown anoles and/or house geckos with green, squirrel, grey, barking, golden, and/or cuban treefrogs. The cuban, golden, and barking treefrogs can exceed 3" at times and the smaller treefrogs and very small anoles and house geckos could still fall prey to them, so be careful in which species you choose. i have had a tank such as this before and it worked out very well for 6 years, until i sold it. I had 1 adult male brown anole, 2 adult female brown anoles, 4 adult female green anoles, 3 house geckos, 2 green treefrogs, 2 squirrel treefrogs, and 1 golden treefrog in a 75 gal. aquarium with coco fibre soil and planted extensively with live tropical plants, two running waterfalls and a waterbowl for soaking. the tank was misted every other day and plants watered every 3 days. I had a screen top, which was sectioned off with plexiglass to retail moisture and increase humidity and two 60 watt basking blubs were provided alond with a UVA/UVB flourscent blub. This tank is probaly bigger than you are looking for, but if you let me know what you have or want to work with, i will try to help you out with the number of animals and the best ones for the tank.
by the way, other lizards such as three lined, five lined, and long tailed,as well as small day geckos can also be used.

can you post a link with pics of the geckos you are talking about?

what about like bearded lizards?? will the eat frogs???

sorry this is all very new to me.

my specialty is actually salt water tanks.

http://www.wildherps.com/species/H.frenatus.html- common house gecko- can get at most petshops along with anoles
others you can use:
Western Banded Gecko: Coleonyx variegatus
day gecko- some species are large and aggressive

if you are not yet experienced with herps, you may want to consider setting up several small enclosures with diff. species that you can mix together in a large tank at a later date. this will give you an idea of the different requirements each species may require, which you can then incorporate into one tank at a later date.

As far as a snake with frogs and lizards, you can try a Rough Green snake or a DeKay's snake. My friend has a rough green and all it eats are crickets and other small bugs. Same goes for a DeKay's, just make sure you dont have tiny tiny animals with them.
