Today I got a nice surprise—my season’s first clutch! Well, not really a surprise. It was 28 days post ovulation, pretty much right on schedule.

Eight beautiful, healthy, fertile cinctum eggs are in the incubator (one down, 29 more to go). This will be my first season using the new incubator for the entire incubation (I finished it last year part way through the season). With three levels of redundancy it should be pretty bullet proof. The main controller monitors and controls temperature and humidity. The second controller independently monitors temperature and functions as an over-limit controller. The third monitors both temperature and humidity and calls me if anything varies from my set range. It is probably a bit overkill, but it helps me sleep better at night!

Anyone else get eggs yet?

Mark

My first clutch was on June 8. a really nice surprise. One of my holdback retics from 03 produced 7 eggs ! one infertile but still a small record breaker. one the 11. i had 2 clutches. 5 on a sister to the abowe and 4 on a very small cinctum. I aquired a small group of 03. The Where all quite small weighing 450 - 500 grams so I set the up together. I was surprised when they started mating, and seperated them immediately, as I found the too small. I was quite nervous when one was gravid. She laid the 4 but only one fertile.
I am almost religious conserning dates in my gila colony. Hibernation is from December 1. to March 1. Males are introduced on April 1. This scheme has worked very nicely. But I have nverhad egges this early. They usually start mid to late June !

I agree with my good friend Rolf. Let´s see that incubator Mark !

Cheers

Henrik
