Frillie Not Eating

klik Jun 14, 2006 02:07 PM

Hey I have had my female frilled dragon for going on 3 years now and for the last 2 months she hasn't eaten much. I feed her dusted superworms. Her basking spot is about 100F with her overrall hot side measures in the high 80s with the cool side being in the 70s. Anyone have any ideas what's wrong?

Is Superworms the only thing you've been feeding it? I'd say superworms should only be a smaller part of a varied diet of bugs. Try feeding it something else, like crickets or roaches.

How big is your dragon?

I give it superworms, mealworms, and crickets as the staple diet depending on what I have available to me from the pet stores and once a month I give her 2 pinkies as a treat. Her overall STL is 17".

My frillie will stop eating certain things periodically, this is why I offer him a wide variety of things to eat. You may want to be feeding your frilled something more nutritious as well. If you are trying to combat a hunger strike I found that goliath horn worms work well, you can order various sizes, but they get HUGE and they are a cool green color that really attracts Pat's attention. I suggest going to mulberryfarms. com and checking what they sell. You can also check wormman. com, he includes shipping in all prices and offers some great deals on worm/cricket combo shipments.

While I feed my frillie a variety of things, gut-loaded dusted crickets are his staple diet.

I'm trying cockroaches next, I'll let you know how those go.

try giving it greens occasionally even though most dragons that ive heard of dont like them you can trick them on occasion by handfeeding it or if you can get it to open its mouth a tiny bit stick the food in and that sometimes triggers a feeding response. that doesnt work all the time though.
maybe a tiny dose of Ivermectin if it somehow got worms or some paracite of somesort (not recomended without first taking a fecal to be tested and talking to a veterinarian)
if this is the first time shes done this in three years she may just be burminating. sounds very similar to what my frilled did about 6 months ago. it just sat sulking in its cage and wouldnt eat hardly anything for about a month and a half. how big is the enclosure? if its to small then it could be a comfort thing.

try giving it a fuzzy mice. mine love them!! if you live in a place were you have a lot of land (5 acres +) and you DONT use any kind of pesticides and your nabbers are fare enough away (my closest nabber is about 500 ft away) then you could catch some anoles for her, but please use good common sense in doing this and be careful do not feed any thing that looks sick, hurt or that is skinny.
i did feed lizards to mine for a long time but my Mom and dad dont like it so i stopped
good luck

Well I live in New York so we don't have wild anoles running around and she hasn't eaten the live pinkies I offer her. I brought her to the vet Friday and they said it could be possible impaction =/ He gave her some mineral oil and if she doesn't poop by this Friday then an X-Ray is going to be taken.
