I noticed recently that my yearling Southern painted does something kind of odd when hes eating his crickets: he fans his front feet much like a male will fam his feet at a female just before he gobbles his bug. Im sure he holds no sexual attraction to his dinner, but is he just that excited or what? It is very cute to watch him at it though!

My 12 year old western painted will do this too especially when he has feeder fish in the tank with him.
I call it playing with his food.
