She's done laying - ten eggs was all, she was guarding her nest and quite fiercely too.

Here they are after being transfered for incubation:

I'm going to put the thermal pad on a timer to go on for a few hours at night - it probably isn't necessary, but

Congratulations on the eggs! We will have to exchange pictures of our experiences sometime.

My alligator Lizard laid her eggs in a little plastic container that she guarded as well. She blocked the entrance off with dirt. However, as soon as I took the lid off, she chickened out and ran away from the nest lol. I guess you had a more courageous Alligator Lizard. :P

I never found it necessary to use any equipment to hatch my eggs, but I guess you only used yours because you had it sitting around eh?

The cage it is in was given to me. It isn't really good for any of the reptiles I have, it's what I put my snakes in when I clean their cages. I added the heat pad because I wanted to be able to add a little heat at night, hoping it perhaps will decrease the incubation time a bit. Other than that, nothing special about it really.

Well - it has been a week, and so far all ten eggs still look good.
I guess about 7 more weeks to go ... (if I remember, and I might be wrong, it's about an 8 week incubation period)

Yesterday the ambient temperature got too warm (113F outside, 91F inside), heat wave and all. I draped a wet towel over the tank, and it seemed to cool it down some (evaporative cooling) but not as much as I would like. If today is like yesterday, I'll put a wet towel into the tank that has the eggs - that may be more effective than just draped over it. Fortunately our heat is pretty dry, so evaporative cooling works pretty well.

Of course the wet towel won't touch the incubation container, point is just to cool the ambient air around the container. Next year, my herp room is getting an air conditioner (probably set to 83F to save money).
