mikeyburnss Jul 13, 2006 06:32 PM

I am going to incubate some cal king eggs with a basic Hova Bator, my question is do I fill up the bottom parts with water?? Or just spray the vermiculite down with water?? If so how often? Please help this will be my 1st time attempting this. Thanks a bunch.

Yes, fill the bottom with water. I use the same type, and fill both compartments with water about 3/8". I also cover trays with sran wrap, but don't let it touch the eggs, punch a few holes in the sran wrap. If the eggs start to collapse, spray vermiculite, but not the eggs. Set at 82 degrees.

Good Luck;

Rbichler, thank you ver much for the information. When you say cover the trays are yo saying cover the trays that the eggs will be in? How has this incubator worked for you in the past? Thanks again.

Ya, cover the tray with the sran wrap, it's keeps moisture even around in the egg tray when you have the tray right under the heat source.
The incubator has worked fine for me, mine keeps a steady temp. with no problem. remember you have to keep it in a area where the outer temp stays under 82-84 degrees.

My house stays just above 82-85, would you recommend using the AC durning the hot times of the day or will that mess with the eggs?

You might be able to incubate them without any extra heat. Maybe put a timer on to just heat at night if your house drops too much at night.
