fire belly found after 2 weeks!

otis07 Jul 19, 2006 11:22 AM

i have three fire belly toads, and about two weeks ago two got out. i have a screen top that i only open to change theri water dish and feed them. i have absolutly no idea how they got out. but four days after they went missing one hopped on my dads foot while he was watching TV. the other one was missing up until yesterday. but then my dad saw him hopping across the basement floor while he was working out! i put like 10 water dishes out, but didn't know if it would find them. he looks exactly the same as he did before, maybe a little skinnier, but not much at all. they really are hardy1 just tought i'd share their story. these are the two that got out. the one on the driftwood with the cloudy eye is the one that was found today.

Very interesting! And, yes, they are very hardy! I have one of mine for 6 years, and he's still going strong. But lately, he's been doing something totally strange to me; he turned completely dark, almost black! I haven't a clue why he does that! I'm suspecting it's mating season. He's been that color since spring. Either that or I have to feed him food that is high in beta-caratine. Anyway, cheers!

i knew they were hardy, but a lot of animals seem to be hardy when conditions are ideal only. apperently not these ones. i don't think it's turning black because of mating, but not sure. has he ever done that before? i think you would have seen it if it was because of mating. what kindor set up do you have? and does it seem healthy other than that? i've seen ones that were blaskish/brownish and they didn't look healthy, but i don't think thats the same case with you, esp. cause you've had it for 6 years. thats weird though.

Mine will readily eat, and it lives in a room temperature environment. I have it set up as semi-aquatic set-up. I know it's weird, especially he has never done it before, so I'm kindda lost.
