How long w/o food?

kookawaka Jul 24, 2006 02:00 PM

We are going on vacation for about a week. I have someone to take care of the lizard and the eggs. She will be a big wussy about the crickets so I need to know how often she can get away with feeding her ? I also have a back-up lizard sitter so maybe that would be better. Your thoughts?

As long as she's in good shape and has access to water she should easily be able to go a week without food.

Sweet! Maybe I can forgo the lizard sitter entirely then. Would you suggest feeding her more than usual the few days before we leave? By the way, how many stinking crickets can they eat a day anyways?? Oh yes, wanted to let you know the 12 eggs are still in good shape so far.Yay : )

All of my 10 eggs still look good - but one of them I noticed has some brown on the underside, it could be staining from the hatching medium (coconut fiber) but I don't think so, I didn't notice it on any of the other eggs. No mold on it yet though, so it might be OK.

Today is the 2 week day for my eggs - so they should be about 25% of the way through.

I'd let her gorge herself before you leave If she tends to go through her water or if it doesn't tend to last a full week, I'd add a larger bowl (not large enough to drown her).

Good luck to both of you on the eggs. I have noticed brown staining in the past from cocconut fiber, but unless the egg is smelly or moldy, it's best to avoid lifting it.

Yes - I left the egg alone. My experience from younger years is that bad eggs begin to mold fairly quickly, and sometimes eggs that look like they have gone bad are in fact still good.

I had one clutch as a child that looked like the entire clutch had gone bad in the last week, discolored and caved in.

I left the saran wrap off the top and was going to dispose of them.
The next day there were baby lizards running around the house. We only caught 3 of the 9 that hatched - the other six either got outside or consumed by our cats.
