KNBC (Los Angerles, California) 04 August 06 Zoo Snake Gives Birth To 35 Babies - Litter Could Break Record
Coimbatore, India: One of the world's most poisonous snakes gave birth to what may be a record number of snakes at a zoo in India.
The Russell's viper snake is one of only 30 percent of land snakes that do not lay eggs but give birth to live offspring.
The snake at the Indian zoo gave birth to 35 snakes. The normal litter for this kind of snake would be about 15.
The vipers' poison is deadlier than that of cobras.
The baby snakes can only feed on live flies and insects and may grow as long as 30 feet.
