black and white tegu substrate

pythonjim Aug 10, 2006 10:39 AM

Is it o.k. to use aspen or pine shavings as substrate for a black and white tegu. I do not like cypress mulch, but want to make sure the substrate I use is appropriate. My tegu is about 1 year old. Thanks for any advice in advance.

if you dont like cypress mulch ive read that orchid bark is ok. im not so sure about the pine or aspen. i think of the two if i had to choose would be aspen because i used to use it for my hedgehog and i liked it better than pine. try not to use reptibark because ive seen that it has dust that gets trapped on the toes of the tegu and may constrict the toes off. almost like disecdysis. cypress should be baked anyways for bugs n stuff....its not that bad. i hope this helps.
