What color bulb do you use?

kellybee Aug 11, 2006 02:40 AM

Half the sites I have been on say use a green or red basking bulb as they cant see the color. Others say use a white bulb. I have a white bulb but figured it might be useful to see what other people use, as I've only ever used a green bulb for night viewing though not with anoles.

What do you use?

Hi, Kellybee!

I use a Reptisun 5.0 and a daylight white incandescent basking bulb. They're diurnal, so should have nice visible light. It all gets turned off at night.

I tried a green bulb for a few weeks and they seemed to like it but it made the tank look funny and it was harder to see the anoles, so we are now back to the white bulb. They also have a reptisun bulb that they love to sit on, and no change was seen when we switched the bulbs or switched them back. I guess its personal preference, so white it is....
